Wonderful World of Whiteley

We look forward to the Whiteley family reunion every year. It consists of my great grandparent's children and their children and their children and their children.....you may get the idea that it's a pretty big reunion. Well it is! There are always tons of people and it's so much fun! My aunt May always does such a great job of getting everyone together and making it fun for everyone. We get a shirt every year and this year's theme was "The Wonderful World of Whiteley". It was Disney theme that consisted of a tea party with Alice and dancing with Donald Duck + Lilo and Stitch. We also had a Mickey and Minnie. Later in the day we had the Lindon water park all to ourselves. Which was a blast.

Christmas time

Early in December we got together with family to make gingerbread houses

On Christmas eve we night we went to my parents and had a sleepover so we could all spend Christmas morning together. This was our little Christmas bed that we set up in my mom's craft room.

Reunion!

I thought I would start you off with the cutest little boy ever!

Anyway...we had 4 family reunions this year just on my side.

This is the preview of the Whiteley reunion.

My great aunt always does such an amazing job planning our reunion every year.

She always thinks of a creative theme and always plans such fun activities.

I am so glad that she takes the time to gather the family every year.

My cousin came from out of town to attend the reunion. It was great to see him and his wife.

We had the reunion at newly developed camp site a little past Heber. It was very nice. There was a lake with canoeing a zip line and a large building to gather with a huge kitchen and nice bathrooms. They also had a large screen up to do our family history work which was pretty neat.

Later in the day we had a magic show by Maximilian the magician.

It was so fun to see him get up and show his little personality.

He has always been such a funny kid that thinks up the funniest things,

so it was fun to see him up entertaining everyone.

Hike

On July 24 we went on a hike with our good friends Kia and Sam

We started out thinking it was about 3 miles up and 3 miles back.

We found out it was 3 miles from the trailhead which was 1 mile from the parking area.

We ended up with an 8 mile hike. It was definately worth it.

We had a lot of fun hiking with the Hohaias.

Me and my sweet hubby have been married for 3 years now!

We celebrated by going out to dinner and we had a nice movie night.

The actual day of our anniversary we spent doing family pictures and spending time with family.

It was very pretty and we caught a bunch of stock pond fish.

What a GREAT Face to start the day.

After seeing the animals at the zoo we stepped

BacK in TimE

We worked hard

gave up our electric stove

shopped at the only place in town

Changed our style

and learned how to make spoons and door handles

(Sterling's favorite)

We made these delicious s'mores later that night

Looks like you could make this in about 2 minutes

Well I have a new recipe called the "1 hour s'more"

1) drive all the way up the mountain

2) pay the old dude for parking...$7 per car

(we doubled this because we had 2 cars)

3)Run back to your car after 5 minutes due to rain

4) while running back to your car dunk your new left shoe

completely in the river as your cross it.

(you can skip this step, because it's absurd)

6) Go to a nice dry house and fire up the grill

7) Move to the stove once you realize the grill will add another hour to your time due to wind

And that is how you make them

Afterwards we played fun games and still made it a party.

My lovely husband put in a new garbage disposal today.

I thoroughly enjoy it.

If I could I would put a bunch of things down it.....but

I think that would ruin it.

This takes me back to the day when Sterling was working two jobs.

One job doing maintenance on apartment buildings was more than pleasurable at times.

One day I helped him install garbage disposals in quite a few apartments

Can I say disgusting.

There were stinky sinks filled with nasty water, old food and other things I could not identify.

I probably should mention all of these apartments where occupied by girls.

So I guess i should restrain myself from testing the G.D. by throwing weird things down it.

Christmas

Christmas this year was a little bit different. The family usually switches off thanksgiving and Christmas each year and this Christmas was an off year. We ended up all opening presents at different times. On Christmas Eve Todd and Natalie came over and opened presents. Then we went over to Grandma Harper's house which is usually a Christmas Eve tradition. She is so cute and always tells us how much she loves her family, I love going to see her because she is always so positive. I love my grandma!

We got this beautiful picture from my parents. We then went to Sterling's parents house, had a nice Christmas meal and opened presents.

After Sterling's parents house we went back to my parents house and Teag and Kiah opened their presents. Then a couple days later Ty and lori came and opened their presents. Our family was so scattered but it was a fun Christmas and it was fun to still be able to see everyone.

On December 12 my big brother got married. We went up to Eden, Utah to red moose lodge. It was such a nice place. They got married then we danced most of the night. All of the family and some friends got to stay at the lodge overnight and we woke up to the most snow I've seen in a long time. It was so beautiful and we had a lot of fun. I love you Todd, Natalie and Kennedy.

We went and bought a bushel of peaches from farnsworth farms last week and this is all Sterling has been eating. He loves peaches and ice cream.Once again, we've been busy with school. We are both taking Biology and Chemistry along with labs and Sterling is also taking math and English. We are so excited to get more classes done. It feels so good to be getting somewhere in school. I am thinking that I may be able to apply for hygiene school for fall 2010 or I may be able to get there in spring 2011. We will see how everything goes. Hopefully sooner than later. Sterling has about 2 years until he can apply to medical school, which by then I should be close to done with hygiene school. We hope everything works out.

Family Reunion

We had a lot of fun at the family reunion this year. It was fun being able to see family. Aunt May always does such a great job at planning the whole thing. Our family has climbed up to over 300 people and of course not everyone always makes it, but it seems like there was a really good turn out this year. Here is a picture of a small portion of the Harper family.

We had so much fun visiting

Sterling and I also had the assignment to make some big cowboy posters to stand up. I forgot to take a picture of them, but they are those big pictures with the face cut out of them so you can put your face in the hole and take a picture. We hung them up on the nails sticking out of the pavilion and tied the bottoms to bails of hay. I'm so glad it worked out.

My aunt Launa set up a fishing hole with my Grandma Dora's name on it. My grandma says that she has always hated her name, that was until Dora the explorer came out. Now she tells all the kids that she is Dora the Explorer.

I also got a kick out of my cousin's son Max. He is a crack up. We had a trading post set up where anyone could bring homemade things to trade. Little Max came up to his mom with a loaf of bread and she asked him where he got it. He said that he had gotten it from the trading post. His mom was a little bit puzzled and realized wait we didn't have anything to trade. Max just said that he took care of it. He went and picked some flowers, tied them up and put them on the table.

We went to the Jon Schmidt concert tonight at the sandy ampitheater (Which by the way was superb) The sunset was beautiful and it was so much fun to be together and to spend some time with my parents too. Jon Schmidt is amazing I want to play the piano like him.

Last weekend for the fourth of July we decided to go on a hike to cecret lake. We ended up going on the white pine trail up cottonwood canyon and it was so pretty. Here are a few pictures from our journey.

We also had a lot of fun going to Sterling's parent's house to light some fireworks and eat yummy sugar cookies. Then on the fourth we went to the bee's game with my parents.

We also had a little suprise. The moisture from the air conditioning pipe was leaking and there was a big huge bubble in the ceiling. We popped it and had to replace a big chunk of the sheetrock. What a big job.

Sterling and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary this weekend. The doctor I work for gave us tickets to go see hello Dolly at Hale Theater. It was cute and pretty funny. Then we went and saw My sister's keeper which I was excited to see because I read the book. It was pretty good if you are in the mood for a sad movie. On our actual anniversary, saturday, we went to a chinese restaurant called Watermoon. We love going there. Afterwards we set up a big fort of pillows and blankets on our floor and watched Forever Strong. It is so much fun to spend time with Sterling every weekend. I love that we are able to have that time together. I love you Sterling. You are the best husband I could ever ask for. I am looking forward to a million more anniversaries.We have never been into the whole Sushi trend, but we decided to try it awhile ago and this has been our favorite ever since. It's called the Poker Roll.

I've had some pictures of the Draper temple for awhile and I've been wanting to post something about being able to go to the open house. I knew I was waiting for a reason, I just needed this last picture. We were coming down the mountain the other day and there was a spot in the road where we looked over and saw this. It was so pretty that we had to take a picture.

Today was fun. We decided that we wanted to use our ice cream maker that we got for our wedding. It was kind of fun and the ice cream was really good.Also my nephew Gavin came over tonight. He is so much fun and so smart. He is such a sweet little boy. This is him watching Sterling put ice in the ice cream maker He was actually giving me some good smiles for the pictures. My Sterling is such a good eater. The other night he made this big huge salad with red, green peppers, romaine, corn, kidney beans, onion, broccoli, chicken, salsa ranch dressing, a corn tortilla shell and tons of cilantro. He was pretty proud of his big salad and wanted me to get a picture of him with it. I thought I should post it on our blog and tell Sterling that his recipe book is long past due. I love the food you make Sterling, it's yummy.

Sterling and I are going to be spending this week finishing up our classes and taking finals. It will be nice to have a couple weeks off, then on to summer semester. As for the new stuff, Sterling and I have been called as primary teachers. We are teaching the 4 year olds turning 5. Today was our first day and they are so cute, we are very excited. Not much else is going on. We just spent the weekend celebrating a wedding and a baby shower. The only thing left to say is that I am so ready and excited for the snow to melt on the mountains so we can go on hikes and go to Timpanogos cave.

Mission reunion

We went to another mission reunion on friday. It was a lot of fun seeing people we haven't seen for awhile. We didn't take nearly as many pictures as we would have liked to, but here are a few

This is Devin and his wife Melissa. It was so much fun to see them again and to see missy's baby bump. Congrats!
Sterling's mission president talked about Detroit a little bit. He told us some interesting facts. In the 1950's Detroit's population was 2.5 million and today it is at 900,000. When Sterling was on his mission the members of the church didn't have any ward buildings, they had just been renting different places to hold church in. Today they have 2 brand new ward buildings. Detroit is continueing to grow as far as the church goes. These missionaries have made such an impact and I am so proud of all of them. I believe that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is what is going to help that city.

I look at the blogs everyday and I get so bored when no one has anything new. Well look at me I haven't had anything new for ages.

First of all we are pleased to announce that we won the chili and chocolate cook off! Our ward has this event every year and this year we decided to participate. It was so much fun to taste all of the different chillis and chocolate desserts that people made. It's also fun to get more into the ward. We love it! It was fun that my mom went too. Sterling made his spicy mexican soup and won "hottest chilli award" I made a rocky road pie and won "chocolateliest chocolate award". Sterling is trying to make a "this chili is spicy" face and I am trying to make a "mmm this is good chocolate face" hehe As for the holidays, Sterling brought home some beautiful flowers for me for valentines day. I am a flower fanatic I LOVED THEM. Thanks Sterling!

For St. Patties day sterling made a shepherds pie. It was wonderful and he just made it up. Man I want to learn how to just make things up like he does.
It was also Sterling's mom's birthday in March. We went out to the cheescake factory and then the next day we went out again to celebrate her birthday and our brother in laws birthday. Unfortunately we didn't take any pictures so here is an older picture of Sterling's parents. I like them a lot and appreciate all they do for us. Susan is such a great mom with all of the kids.Again I have to add another flower picture. These are the flowers I arranged for Susan's birthday gift.
As for everything else, we've been keeping busy. Sterling has been doing a bunch of maintenance on our cars such as changing oil, changing our fuel filters etc. Sterling was doing some things on my car and found this:The exhaust manifold cracked on my car. I think I've been driving with it cracked for a long time. We decided that we are just going to leave it because it doesn't cause any problems for the car. LUCKY. phewph

I love this new frozen yogurt place in Draper at12300 and 260 east called Frogurt. I guess it is part of a chain store called Yozen Frogurt, but in Utah it's called Frogurt. It is so yummy. They have a ton of different flavors to choose from and it's all self serve. They also have a lot of different toppings you can put on it from candy bars and fruit to cereal and nuts. They charge you .35 cents an ounce and me sterling filled a huge bowl for 5 bucks. So anyway this is my new favorite treat. I highly recommend this place.

It was a great Christmas this year. It was so nice to wake up to the white snow! It was also nice to spend it with both Sterling's family and my family. In the morning we made some breakfast and opened presents at my parent's house.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? People getting stressed about getting all of those gifts and losing sight of the what Christmas is all about. Also Black Friday. Big shopping crowds. Sure it's good to get a great deal but I think some people just go too far. I don't like when people get selfish and greedy either.
23. Favorite ornament theme or color? I love my parents tree. Every year each of us would get a new ornament to put on the tree. So all of them are different. I am excited for the day that my mom will give them up to each of us. :) ha no rush mom I know you love them.

R. rain, especially at night and early mornings. I absolutely love it, it makes me sleep like a baby.
S. Sterling...that's a given. I am so happy to have him in my life forever and ever. I couldn't ask for a better husband.

T. Temples. I'm so thankful that we have so many that are so close. I am so happy and excited to be living near the new Draper temple.

U. underpants. i couldn't think of anything but underpants are a pretty good invention.

V. Vaccums. There is nothing like clean carpet under your toes.

W. Weekends and weather I love being home on the weekend when it snows! I love cuddling and being a home body.

X. X-tra time with my hubby. Ok this doesn't really start with an x but I wanted to think of something that I am actually thankful for, instead of a xylaphone or something because I'm not thankful for those. :)

I haven't posted anything for awhile so here is a random one......are ya ready?.......These are some things that help me survive crappy moments. My life is not really crappy in anyway, but there are times where you just don't feel well which brings me to my first crappy moment zappers.....

This stuff is so great. I've been feeling a bit sick the past few days and this helps make the symptoms less crazy. It helps a lot when you are feeling a cold coming on. This has saved my life so I can go to work. The next thing I love is fuzzy socks. Wearing scrubs and fuzzy socks to work can make working a lot more enjoyable. :)

The next thing I really really like are those microfiber cloths. If you have black furniture that shows dust all the time these are amazing. I actually enjoy dusting with these things! Sterling can't get me to stop dusting!

The next thing that is great is this silk hair product. Ya know those days where your hair just doesn't work. This stuff is amazing. It defrizzes my hair and untangles it and makes it soft and shiny it's great if you have a lot of crazy hair.

The next thing I really like is cheddar beer kettle chips. They are so gooooooooooooooood!

Last but certainly not least.... I absolutely love this guy! He is so incredible! I think I could advertise all those products above but this guy is mine.

I am officially 21 as of this last thursday 10-9-08 and I was born on 10-9-87 (kind of fun numbers that count down don't you think). It was a pretty fun birthday. Sterling brought home some very pretty flowers that he picked out himself. It was so cute and so nice! Sterling also took me to the cheesecake factory because I've been wanting to go there for so long. It was reallllly good. We only waited 10 minutes too which is pretty unusual I hear. The next day sterling took me shopping and I got some diffusors from costco. I love making our bedroom smell really good! I also got a clock that matches my decor perfectly! The week before, me and my mom went to girls night out while the boys were at priesthood and we got this clock for $20! I love great deals plus I love this clock! I also got a nice gift certificate from mom and dad mateer to get a pedicure. I've never had one and I am so excited to use it. On saturday we went with mom and dad harper to dinner and then today we got together to eat my favorite soup that sterling makes. The best part of my birthday was spending a lot of time with sterling and seeing family. I have one more very important task for next weekend. I am going to visit my grandpa...the person I share the birthday with Happy Birthday on thursday Grandpa. We talked on the phone which was great but I think it will be good to go visit him since we weren't together on our birthday this year. Anyway... it was a great weekend. I had a good birthday. Every since I was little I have loved baking. I liked making cookies and things, but I also liked to try new cake recipes. I remember making a triple chocolate torte from scratch when I was 10 years old. I haven't been into it as much as I use to, but here are some of the recent cakes I've made I think they look kind of good. Although sweets are great, I probably should start learning how to cook meals better now that I'm a wifey. Sterling is a better cook than I am.:)

I want to make this cake, I've always wanted to try to do those chocolate curls. plus it kind of looks like a two layer torte....veeeerryy yummy.

Fall hike

On Friday me, sterling and my mom decided to go on a last minute hike before the day was over. It was so fun to go on a hike again. Sterling and I kep saying that we were going to go on a ton of hikes this summer but we never did because we've been so busy doing other things. Well we finally did it. It's kind of pathetic too because we drove like 3 minutes to get to the trail head.We had a lot of fun though and we had a beautiful view of the Draper temple on the way down.

Sterling's old mission companion Jayson got married on the 8th, My friend michelle got married on the 14th, and two of my cousins get married this weekend. It's been fun. Family reunion

We had a lot of fun at the Whiteley family reunion this weekend. We went down to Antimony and stayed in some cabins. We went fishin at Piute resovoir and otter creek. The family reunion was at my great aunt Donna's cabin. It's really nice there. they have a zip line a large grassy area and a large area for everyone to set up tents. The reunion was a lua theme which made it fun. They had polenesians come and do some dances and they roasted a pig in the ground. Me and Sterling set up a treasure hunt for the kids which turned out pretty good. The kids were so funny to watch. We had fun. We all look forward to the Whiteley reunions every year, because aunt May does such a great job. We also love out shirts that say "Nani Ohana" which means beautiful family.

It all started last monday. I was feeling a bit tender down in that one area between my legs. I didn't think much of it, but by friday it didn't seem quite right. Sterling and I did some research on it and we thought it was a Bartholin gland cyst. We decided I probably should go see a doctor because it seemed to be getting worse. So we started calling gynocologists that would take our insurance. It was ridiculous! Every doctor we called was booked until September and I had a ping pong ball down between my legs. I finally called our insurance and they were able to get me in somewhere. So we go to this place and it turns out the insurance lady had sent me to a nurse practitioner. The nurse checks it out and her words were. "Oh you need to get that fixed." thank you I could have figured that out. She gave me some anibiotics and was out of there. After a bunch of hulabaloo with the insurance company, they finally found me someone that could ACTUALLY help me. So I went in today and It definately was what we thought it was. My Bartholin gland. Doctor England was really great.(He did his residency in Detroit so sterling had a lot to talk to him about since he went on his mission there)So anyway,the doctor explained what the Bartholin gland is and how it got that way. Apparently the cyst is really common in women 20-29 that have never been pregnant. There isn't much you can do to prevent it, it just happens. So the doctor ended up draining it and he put a catheter in. Sterling thought it was awesome to watch. I didn't think it was so awesome to feel. It's over though and now I'm waddling like a penguin.

We had some fun little visitors at our house this weekend. Our nieces and nephew came over for awhile. We went to the park for awhile then came home and did some bubble blowin. Our ONE year Anniversary

Our anniversary was on June 27. I can't believe we've been married a year already. It seems like it's gone by so fast. Yet we both decided we have learned A LOT since we were first married. It's been a great year and we are excited for all the years to come. I love you Sterling!

We had a lot going on today. I woke up this morning and started my first cake made with fondant. My friend I grew up with was having a birthday party, so I decided to make her a cake. I think it turned out pretty well for my first time. I just found a recipe off line and did it.

Sterling is 23 now! The morning of his birthday I gave him his "man basket" probably because i was excited to give it to him. Inside was a new beard trimmer (which he desperately needed), some axe shower gel, shower puff, some new church socks (he needed those too), a big bag of peanut butter m&ms, and some apple beer. Then later we made Indian food for dinner. I got the recipe off the internet and it was decent. The day after, Sterling got a cookbook of all kinds of oriental food. They look sooooo good. We love different food. We are excited to try it. We had Cheesecake for dessert on sunday. Happy Birthday!!

We stopped at sterling's work today and realized that we were close to the zoo. So we went! It was so much fun. We both hadn't been there since we were really little. I told sterling that my mouth hurt from smiling all day. Yes, that is how much I enjoyed it. I loved the monkeys. There was this one that I couldn't stop watching, because it was funny. It looked really old and ugly and it was just walking around slowly picking up all the stuff on the ground and eating it. It kinda was acting senial compared to all the other hyper monkeys. I guess ya had to be there because that doesn't sound funny at all. It just was though.

We got a bed! We had been looking around for a long time now. We hadn't been able to find anything we really liked or the ones we kind of liked were expensive. This weekend we weren't really even looking, we were by an outlet furniture store so we decided we would just stop by. We found the headboard on clearance and we loved it! It was awesome. I love a great deal!

Sterling and I bought these nightstands off of Ksl classifieds for pretty cheap. We thought they had potential so we went to work and fixed them up. They had some water stains and chips, so we sanded them down, primed them then painted them black. I think they turned out pretty nice! It was kind of fun fixing them up! I'm glad we spent the time fixing them up, rather than spending $100-$200 a piece on brand new ones.BeforeAfter

My brother Todd suprised us this weekend and came home. He's been in Korea the past month or so and he lives in Palm Springs, so it was nice to see him! I just caught a picture of him in one of the many weird places that he falls asleep. The other picture is with him and my nephew Gavin. These two are great buddies!
Today we all got together and had an easter dinner. Then we played Bunko. Most of us had never played it before. My brother and sister in-law got us playing it. It was really fun. It's not very often that we are all together so it was really nice to see everyone.

The other day we decided to rent a couple video games. I didn't know that Sterling would be so into it. He was really concentrating and I thought it was kinda funny. I'm glad he doesn't do this

Anyway, My little nephew, baby Gavin, was over this last weekend. He is so stinking cute. I caught some shots of him and grandpa playin. He was awesome this time because everytime I saw him he was in a good mood. I love happy babies!

Well. I missed writing on Valentines day. We spent the Day at the Utah Dental Association convention downtown. Then today, I had to take a radiology certification class for my job and Sterling was lucky enough to go with me. Afterwards we went to Taifoon to make up for valentines day. It was great! It's one of our favorite places to eat. Sterling was so great to go with me to the dental convention. What a great hubby. I guess he didn't mind, because we got some pretty cool free stuff. Like toothbrushes, toothpaste and mouth wash. :)

So anyway, right now we are taking care of the good old Burningham's dog. We love Ziah. This dog is a great dane and he's humungous!

If I just sit down Ziah will come sit on my lap. He think's he's smaller than he isAlso, since it's Valentines weekend I thought i would write something about my wonderful husband. Lately I just keep thinking about how sweet he's been.

The other day Sterling noticed that I had found some nightstands on ksl classifieds that I wanted. He called the next day while I was at work and got them for our room! I was so excited that he called! It was a nice suprise, because he knows I've been really wanting to use our lamps that we got for christmas.
Also couple of weeks ago I had strep. Sterling ended up taking care of me and making me his famous herbal teas and reutera. I got better pretty quick. Sterling has such a knack for healing. He seems to always know what to do for certain symptoms. It's great! I keep telling him he should make a career out of it.
I just appreciate Sterling for all he does. He is so caring and would do anything for anyone. He is such a great hubby and friend! Love you Sterling!

I thought these pictures were kind of fun. I love the one of Sterling on his first birthday, he looks so surprised! I hope our babies look like him. I love his BIG eyes! I love looking at pictures. I decided that it's one of my hobbies to just sit and look at pictures and maybe scrapbook a few. We've been really slacking on picture taking, so we're definately going to do better at that. I'm really getting ridiculous though. Yesterday I told Sterling that I wanted to take a picture of us on our new pillows. (Weird, I know)I want more pictures, but I mostly wanted that picture because our pillows are amazing! My old one was practically nothing and as flat as all get out. Sterling's was as hard as a rock and he would wake up with a sore neck. Once we got these pillows we've never slept better! We both wake up rested now! We were going to buy two of them with our gift cards $100 for both, but we ended up getting 2 pillows for $16. Who said cheap isn't quality! Oh yea and totally off subject, I'm sad that Mitt dropped out. BUMMER.
